Exchange 2013

Dec 4, 2013 at 7:04 PM
Hey there PAL forum. I'm looking to see if anyone has created or started to create a threshold template for Exchange 2013 (all roles). I haven't seen anything formal from Microsoft on Performance and Scalability Counters and Thresholds like they did with Exchange 2010.

Any assistance or pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks

Davide McGarr (Microsoft Premier Field Engineer) is working on making separate roles. I will let him know that there is demand for this. Thank you for requesting this.

Nope. No one is stepping up to do it. I could remove all of the Exchange Server thresholds (I'm joking) and see if that gets anyone's attention. This is an open source, volunteer project, so it is tough sometimes to get help.

I am working on these as I write this. My plan is to have Exchange 2013 xml's out by the end of Feb.

This is great news, Dave. What thresholds are you basing them on? I've been going through the [Workload Management Reference](http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150485(v=exchg.150).aspx), but it's nothing like as good as the Perfromance and Scalability docs for 2010.

I plan to use a lot of the same thresholds we have in Exchange 2010. I will use the Exchange 2013 thresholds we have published today, but we don't have a lot of that info published at this time.

Nothing new yet. As of today, Davide still claims to be working on it.

Any update on the article for perfmon thresholds for E2K13 like there was e2k7 and e2k10 ?

Microsoft released some more information for Exchange 2013 invcluding a limited list of performance counters: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn879084(v=exchg.150).aspx It's nowhere near what we're used to with previous versions bet it's better than nothing.

Such a shame that we still don't have the treshold file for Exchange 2013. PAL is a great tool to help troubleshoot performance issues, especially for Exchange.

Agreed. Unfortunately, I can't manage all of the performance counters for all Microsoft products... too much. :-)
You are welcome to create an Exchange 2013 threshold file. Just follow the steps in my blog and then send me the threshold file with a sample counter log for me to test it and I will put it in the next release.

right... i will do this. i will do it slowly (like i do most things). but i will do it. if anyone is already doing it and would like to give me donkey work, then i am happy to help. conversely, if anyone else fancies helping, i am happy to receive help.
