Error Running PAL Tool - with Sample-Log

Dec 1, 2008 at 1:51 PM

Hello,

when I run PAL Wizard v1.3.4.2 on my XP Notebook with "SamplePerfmonLog.blg" every time I ge the message:

_FilteredLogForCounterlist.csv is created succesfully but then

ERROR: [DetermineIfCountersAreInThePerfmonLog] Unable to create a counter list from c:\...path...\_FilteredPerfmonLog.csv.

In PAL.vbs in Function UseRelogToConvertBLGToCSV should a file "_CountersToFilter.txt" be created but I can't find such a file.

Any idea how to work with PAL Wizard?

I've got the same/similar problem on my lap with Vista:

ERROR: [DetermineIfCountersAreInThePerfmonLog] Unable to create a counter list from C:\Users\FRIEDK~1.SKY\AppData\Local\Temp\
{B58A9E3D-06E9-497E-A218-E52E938D31FE}\_FilteredPerfmonLog.csv

Nor the sample or other blg-files will work and generate the same error.

Any ideas are welcome.

PAL is trying to create a counterlist.txt from the BLG log and it sounds like it is failing. PAL shells out to Relog.exe to create this counter list. Check the %temp%\{GUID}PAL.log file to see what the results from the Relog.exe command are. That should give some clues as to why it is failing. Sorry for my delayed responses. The RSS feeds don't seem to be working.

It seems to be a problem with relog. Every time it counts the etnries in the logfile. Then it starts "using Relog to create a counter list."
Then the message "ERROR: [DetermineIfCountersAreInThePerfmonLog]..."

When I use relog in a cmd-shell on the SamplePerfmonLog.blg, it works. When i use it on other .blg files it gives the message nor entry found or on a csv-file relog crashes.

Relog.exe is part of the operating system, so if you feel this is a problem with Relog.exe, then consider opening a support case with Microsoft Customer Support Services (CSS).

Hi,
I have a  similar problem with new windows 2008 Exchange server.  The error is below:
It seems that PAL (or the relog process) cannot find the required counter list within the BLG file.  I have run PAL successfully using the blg file from a Virtual W2008 server but cannot seem to get past this error on the domain servers.  I notice too that the begin and end times are missing as is the sampling interval.  Any help would be appreciated.

in file PAL.vbs

replace:

& " &  sNewCounterLog &
chr(34)&  sNewCounterLog &chr(34) "

-cf " & sCountersToFilterFile &
-cf " & chr(34)& sCountersToFilterFile &chr(34) &

& sPerfmonLog &
& chr(34)& sPerfmonLog &chr(34) &

& sImageFileNameShort
& chr(34)& sImageFileNameShort &chr(34) &

it will put C:\DOCUME~1\DODI~1.PEC\LOCALS~1\Temp\{AF360C2E-4C3D-47C2-87FC-65379658F84E
}\_FilteredLogForCounterlist.csv in the " " can solve the problem.

Try right-clicking on your user defined data collector set and set the log format to be comma separated. This will set the output to be a csv and you should stop facing these compatibility issues between perfmon on win server 2008 and windows xp. PAL does accept csv files as input.
