Aggregating perfmon data by PID of process

Sep 30, 2010 at 11:05 PM

When we use Perfmon to monitor multiple instances of the same process, we noticed that it differentiates the process by giving them an arbitrary numbered name, such as MyApp, MyApp#1 and MyApp#2.  However, each process has unique PID and we are interested in aggregating perfmon data by PID.  Is there way in PAL to edit the blg file and aggregate and display the data by PID.

Your response will be greatly appreciated.

The counter "\Process(*)\ID Process" will give you the process ID of each process.

The following KB article shows you how to edit the registry to make all of the process instance names as "process_PID".

PAL does not edit the BLG file. With that said, it is easy enough to add the "\Process(*)\ID Process" counter to PAL. As a matter of fact, I just added it to the Quick System Overview threshold file which all of the other threshold files inherit from - meaning it will be in all of the reports now. Look for this update in PAL v2.0.5.
